FAQs
Ok, maybe not frequently but this will go a little more in depth regarding Video Vault’s purpose and Kinky Cyborg and Bulin’s reasons behind the site as well as how and why we chose to create our own DVD, Video Game and Blu Ray Trading Site when there are already a lot of other Media Trading Sites out there.
Q: Why are you guys doing this? We both love and collect DVDs and Blu Rays and like to get the most for our hobby for our investment. Of the current DVD, Video Game and Blu Ray trading sites and communities on the web, most want to charge a broker fee for acting as a middleman in trading DVDs. Based on the amount of DVD trades that we do online, a $1 a transaction can buy a Lot of extra discs for our respective collections. There are a few free sites out there but all that we came across made them impractical. Some did not allow Canadians to register, some had fixed pricing and well, some just dealt in too much to make the entertainment media selections very large or popular. It was shortly after this search for a replacement from our old stomping grounds, Switchplanet.com, that Kevin reminded me of the old adage “If you want something done right, do it yourself.” So we did and we are. Now, neither of us are programming experts so we are learning as we go. If you need flash intros, lots of widgets and feeds into the IMDB database in order to trade your Precinct 9 DVD for a Clockwork Orange Blu Ray then this might not be the site for you to use exclusively. If you want to meet a good, honest bunch of traders who look out for each other and love DVDs, Blu Rays and Video Games then you might want to bookmark Video Vault and call it home. As our entertainment media trading community grows, we will be doing more on the site and will focus on finding better ways to conduct online dvd trading and social networking. Also as we grow you will see lots more in the giveaway department as we love to share the free DVD and Blu Ray swag with our members.
Q: If you aren’t charging, how are you making money to pay for the site? We do not plan to ever expand to the point of needing to be a subscription site or charging for overseeing trades. For us, the financial gain come from not having to pay other sites for their services and by trading for most of the new releases on DVD and Blu Ray that we want to pick up instead of buying it. We cut overhead as much as possible by keeping our trading model basic and manageable and by doing our own coding. We do offset domain charges by a few non obtrusive ad link on the site that relate to DVDs, Video Games and Blu Rays but that is about it.
Q: Do you guarantee trades? Since we currently support an item for item trading model, it isn’t as simple as reimbursing someone a point value associated with the cost of a DVD title. What we do provide is close monitoring of our traders and ongoing transactions. Should an issue arise we will ensure that less than reputable traders are promptly removed from Video Vault. Reminder- Please be cautious when trading and use your good judgement. Don’t send high dollar titles out to new users and remember, if something sounds too good to be true, it probably is.
Q: What is the air-speed velocity of an unladen swallow? An African or European swallow?
Q: How can I get involved and help the site? My favorite question! We at Video Vault are big on the trading community concept and love to see site members get involved. There is always something to be done, from designing and maintaining a Video Vault Facebook or similar site, to helping with graphics, hosting our world renown Holiday Gift Exchanges, writing reviews or updating our Twitter page. Just ask and we will be glad to find something that fits your expertise. The biggest help you can provide right now, however, takes minimal time and no money. Promote the site! Digg our articles and add links to us in your sites. Promote us in the other forums you frequent when allowed and tell friends!
